PF stands for Provident Fund wherein a particular ratio of an employee’s salary is contributed towards a corpus which he can use either in times of need or after his retirement when he is old. This contribution is made at a regular interval, mostly on a monthly basis with the aim of making an employee habitual of a monthly saving. This saving is also made mandatory by the Government of India. The contribution thus made is not only from the employee’s side but also the employer and gets automatically deducted from the monthly salaries of the employee.
This policy came into being in the year 1952 and is governed by the Employee Provident Fund Organization. Ministry of Labor and Employment have also launched an online portal of EPFO wherein the members can now check the EPF balance as well as request for withdrawals and transfers. The government of India has surely made certain commendable efforts in the PF policies and procedures for the employees and this surely is a big relief to the employees and employers alike.
